Panama City Beach, Florida is a popular destination for many families and there are lots of excellent restaurants to dine at. The kids and I ate like little piggies while we were there for spring break! After eating as much food as possible, here are our favorites.

Here is an overview of what I thought of many Panama City Beach restaurants. I have only included what I think are the best restaurants in Panama City Beach.

Best Brunch in Panama City Beach

Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict at Another Broken Egg

Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict at Another Broken Egg

Another Broken Egg Cafe

This is my favorite restaurant in Panama City Beach and their brunch is unbelievable. All their food is fantastic from the southern cuisine like grits and fried chicken to traditional brunch like eggs benedict or french toast. Their brunch cocktails are amazing too. I highly recommend the Spiked Nutella Latte. If you like to college coffee mugs you should buy one of theirs to take home. I’ve had mine for years now! Located at 11535 Hutchison Blvd, Panama City, FL 32407.

Gypsea Crepes

If you are in the mood for a crepe definitely go to Gypsea Crepes. This is a fun little breakfast joint where they’ve got sweet and savory choices. They have a small menu, but it’s super tasty and it’s easy to have them customize your crepe with things like fresh strawberries, Nutella, peanut butter, and lots of other yummy things. Located at 7012 Thomas Dr, Panama City Beach, FL 32408.

The PancakeryThe Pancakery

Every kind of pancake you could image plus items like avocado toast, omelettes, breakfast burritos and much more. They are also open for lunch. Located at 13800 Panama City Beach Pkwy, Panama City Beach, FL 32413.

Best Milkshakes in Panama City Beach

img 8451Gulf Coast Burger Co.

If you are looking for fried pickles or fried tomatoes the ones here are excellent. The burgers are spendy but so delicious and you can customize them however you like. The best part of eating here is not the hamburgers it’s the milkshakes. They offer huge milkshakes for just $12. These freakshakes are way over the top. 10031 Hutchison Blvd, Panama City Beach, FL 32407.

img 8379The Yard Milkshake Bar

Technically, this is only a milkshake place, but their milkshakes are phenomenal. They top their milkshakes with stuff like slices of cheesecake. My kids told me these were the best shakes they’ve ever had and at this point, they are basically experts. 15801 L C Hilton Jr Dr, Panama City Beach, FL 32413

Best Donuts in Panama City Beach

Thomas Donut

Eating Thomas Donuts in the 2019 Kia Sorento

Thomas Donut

For the best donuts in Panama City Beach, head to Thomas Donut. It’s a bit out of the way out on the west side of town, but it’s more than worth venturing over there. Not only are they delicious, but they are cheap too. Every day they offer a special donut of the day. In the photo above I am holding the “donut of the day” in the picture above, it is an apple caramel pie donut and it was the best donut I have ever had! If you are craving fresh donuts this is the place. Located at 19208 Front Beach Rd, Panama City Beach, FL 32413.

5 Restaurants with the best views in Panama City Beach

img 8554Schooners

Schooners last local beach club has good food and an even better view. We like to hang out on the beach near here since it is a public beach, then when we get hungry we hit Schooners. It’s mainly fried food, but they do offer this jerk chicken plate for a healthier option. Beer lovers be sure to try the Grayton 30A Beach Blonde. They also have their own interesting twist on a Moscow Mule, sadly I cannot recall what they call it. It has vanilla vodka. 5121 Gulf Dr, Panama City, FL 32408.

Pelican’s Bar & Grill

img 8594

Pelican’s is a seasonal restaurant at Bluegreen’s Bayside Resort & Spa. It’s located out on their awesome dock. They offer a small menu, but the cocktails are fantastic and the food is good too. The sunset views are phenomenal. 4114 Jan Cooley Dr, Panama City, FL 32408.

Pompano Joe’s

Pompano Joe’s

Oysters at the Grand Marlin

The Grand Marlin

I took my kids to The Grand Marlin for a fancier dinner while we were in Panama City Beach. I made all of them try the baked oysters, they are so good! The Grand Marlin is located at 5323 N. Lagoon Dr., Panama City, Florida 32408.

Saltwater Grill

I’ve heard this place is amazing. I haven’t tried it myself but after the 10th person recommended it for having the best fish, I thought I better put it on this list! It’s located at 11040 Hutchison Boulevard, Panama City Beach, Florida 32407.

Mike’s Cafe and Oyster Bar

Mike’s Cafe has a lot going on. It’s a down-home diner and seafood restaurant wrapped into one great place to eat. Located at 17554 Front Beach Road, Panama City Beach, FL 32413

Best Sandwich Shops in Panama City Beach

Andy’s Flour Power Cafe and Bakery

We picked up sandwiches and salads to go from Andy’s Flour Power Cafe and Bakery and took them out to Shell Island for a beach picnic. The sandwiches were huge and the strawberry salad was absolutely wonderful. They are open for brunch and lunch. I almost put this cafe under breakfast because they’ve got the best breakfast sandwich in town! 2629 Thomas Dr, Panama City, FL 32408.

Plan A Trip To Florida! Plus, Fun Things To Do There  https://www.mommytravels.net/plan-a-trip-to-florida-plus-fun-things-to-do-there/ Mon, 03 Apr 2023 18:40:20 +0000 https://www.mommytravels.net/?p=39772 Florida is one of the most well-liked vacation spots in the US. There is a variety of attractions for visitors of all ages, from its stunning beaches and theme parks to its various towns and national parks.

In addition, a vacation in Florida will be more budgetary compared to a vacation abroad. You can choose the transport by which you will reach your destination, in accordance with your budget. For those who experience difficulties with the budget, there is a little advice: consider taking out a vacation loan. But first, read the guide to travel financing from 1F Cash Advance and, of course, our Florida tips. However, if you’ve never been to Florida before, organizing your trip can be stressful; it doesn’t matter if you’re going on a day trip, a Florida road trip, or flying to the east coast. You can also use our Vacation Budget Calculator to help you plan things out.

This post will provide a step-by-step tutorial on organizing a trip to Florida and maximizing your time there.

Think about your needs, your budget, and the location and type of accommodations that will best meet them. Particularly during the busiest travel times, making reservations in advance might help you receive the best discounts and guarantee availability.

Create an itinerary that fits your interests and financial constraints after researching the top attractions in the place you’ve decided to visit. Best Time to Visit Florida

Florida is a well-liked vacation spot that provides a range of events and attractions all year round. The ideal time to travel to Florida, however, mostly relies on individual preferences and interests.

Florida’s busiest travel months are December through April when the climate is temperate and pleasant and perfect for outdoor activities. Numerous celebrations and events, like the Art Basel Miami Beach, the Gasparilla Pirate Festival in Tampa, and the Florida Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach, take place around this time. However, this season is also the most expensive and busy, so it’s crucial to reserve lodging and activities in advance.

Another popular season to travel to Florida is during the summer, from June through August. Despite the hot and muggy weather, there are many indoor attractions and activities available, including water parks and museums. This is also a popular time to visit the beaches, but tourists should be prepared for crowds and warmer weather.

May and September to November are wonderful dates to visit Florida if you want to escape the crowds and save some money. Still warm and bright, but with fewer tourists, travelers can take advantage of more reasonably priced lodging and attractions. However, it’s crucial to remember that Florida’s hurricane season lasts from June to November, so visitors should be ready for any storms and make plans accordingly.

This 2,900-acre tract of West Bay Ecosystem is being restored using reclaimed water to return a natural balance back to a once-threatened set of wetlands. Visitors can enjoy the Conservation Park’s boardwalks and 24 miles of unpaved trails as they hike, bicycle or run loops that range from half-a-mile to 11 miles. Gayle’s Trails connects to the Conservation Park trails with other trail systems throughout the beach.

Public restrooms, picnic areas, a guide to local flora and fauna, and a pavilion is located near the main parking lot, while an outdoor classroom provides a venue for group educational and enrichment opportunities. Additionally, eight boardwalks totaling over a mile in length are scattered throughout the park, providing excellent views of natural wetland areas.

Camp Helen State Park

Camp Helen State Park is not free, but it is super cheap. The park is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Powell. Lake Powell is one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida. Natural areas range from coastal dunes and salt marshes along the Gulf to freshwater wetlands and sand pine scrub along the lake. Activities include swimming, beachcombing, nature study, hiking, and both freshwater and saltwater fishing.

Hours: 8:00 a.m. until sunset, 365 days a year.
Fees: $4.00 per vehicle. Use the honor box to pay fees. Correct change is required. Limit 8 people per vehicle or $2.00 for Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.

BeachesPanama City Beach

Almost all of the pure white beaches here are free to the public, as is the parking. At the beach you can swim, boogie board, snorkel, skimboard, build sandcastles, paddleboard, kayak, surf, collect seashells, and fish. You can pick up cheap beach gear and toys at almost any store in town including a dollar store.

Fun Fact: The pure white color of Panama City Beach’s sand results from quartz crystals washing down from the Appalachian Mountains centuries ago. The crystals were bleached, ground, smoothed, and polished along their journey, eventually washing up along the shore of the Gulf of Mexico.

Day Trips from Panama City Beach

Scenic 30A

If you are up for a day trip head over to nearby Scenic 30A. Here you will find tiny adorable beach towns like Aly Beach, Seaside, or Rosemary. Rent bicycles and bike town to town.

Sandestin Baytowne Wharf

Another interesting day trip just a bit further is Sandestin’s Baytowne Wharf. Here patrons can indulge in boutique shopping, zip-lining, ropes courses, an arcade, and unique eateries.

Kayak on Ecofina Creek

Go canoeing/camping/hiking at Econfina Creek. And while you are up that way, be sure to check out Pitt Spring. It’s a great way to see the beautiful freshwater springs without having to buy or rent a canoe. There is a shallow end of the spring for the kids to play and wade around in. There is also a beautiful nature walk that leads to another very shallow place where even babies can play. Some people even snorkel there. FYI – There is not a lot of parking.

Florida Caverns State Park

Florida Caverns State Park, located near Marianna, FL is a bit of a drive, but worth it if you have time. Unfortunately, you cannot make advance reservations for a tour. Tours are offered on a first come, first serve basis, which means you might have a really long wait.

Cold Spring Eco-Adventure

Cold Spring Eco-Adventure is a day trip to a cold spring and cave. You can kayak, paddleboard, snorkel and more.

Where to Stay in Panama City Beach

Sheraton Bay Point Resort

Sheraton Bay Point Resort is our favorite place to stay. It’s a little off the beaten path, but so worth it. They have rooms with kitchens or regular hotel rooms. I recommend staying in the main building in a regular hotel room with views of the bay.

Splash Condos

Splash Condominiums are another great place to stay, especially for families. It’s right on a nice stretch of beach and it has a water playground. Parents can sit in the hot tub while the kids run around the splash area.

Camp at St. Andrews State Park

St. Andrews State Park has two campground loops are nestled in the pine woods along the Grand Lagoon. The park’s campsites can accommodate everything from tents to 40-foot RVs. There is also a “primitive” camping area for non-profit groups, equipped with a bathroom, water pump and picnic table

Rent a House

There are a ton of privately owned houses and condos you can rent for your vacation. You can find places to rent on VRBO.

17 Incredible Family Vacations https://www.mommytravels.net/15-incredible-family-vacations/ https://www.mommytravels.net/15-incredible-family-vacations/#comments Wed, 22 May 2019 13:07:09 +0000 http://www.mommytravels.net/?p=10635 Do you want to plan a trip that the whole family will enjoy, even the teenagers? Let’s face it, the easiest way to make any family vacation successful is to keep the kids happy! To get an idea of what kind of vacation a kid would most enjoy I ask a group of experts aka my kids.

Noah, Eden, and Jonah have been traveling with me their entire lives. So far the three of them have been to at least 22 countries, 4 continents, and almost every state in the United States. Needless to say, when I ask them what the best family vacations were, they had more than a few opinions!

They quickly fired off an assortment of places we have been. It was interesting to hear what they picked, some of them I knew, but other ones were a complete surprise. After some serious conversation with them, we’ve narrowed it down to 17!

Top 17 Family Vacations You will Never Forget!

1. SingaporeSingapore

Singapore is in all of our top ten picks. My oldest, Noah considers Singapore to be a utopia because of its cleanliness and orderliness. Oddly enough, we were only in Singapore for two days, making it one of the shortest stays we have done anywhere. It only took one day for us to fall in love with this city. We recommend walking around Marina Bay where the architecture is insane and definitely visit some parts of the Marina Bay Gardens. I can assure you that your kids have never seen anything else like this! The kid’s favorite hotel here is the Fairmont Singapore. For more ideas on what to do and where to find the best milkshake see my article: Singapore Travel Guide.

2. CancunCancun Family Adventure

Cancun has so much going on, and don’t worry, it’s safe. We spent a week there and basically had a non-stop adventure! The entire area is set up well to accommodate any kind of family and literally any type of budget. Families will appreciate luxurious, all-inclusive resorts with kid’s clubs and teen clubs. While the kids are off doing their own thing parents can head to a spa or the bar. There isn’t a bad beach anywhere in the area, so plan to spend at least two full days beach bumming.  While you are there, be sure to see Mayan Ruins, swim in a cenote, eat lots of Mexican food, and go ATVing.

For a list fun family things to do in Cancun check out this post: 9 Adventurous Things to do in Cancun. I recommend staying at The Grand in Cancun.

If at some point you head over to Cozumel (you totally should), check out my post: 8 Things to do in Cozumel. I recommend staying at Allegro Cozumel.

3. ThailandThings to do in Phuket Thailand with Kids

Thailand is absolutely incredible and I wasn’t surprised it landed in my kids top three places. You can basically go anywhere in Thailand and have an interesting experience. I recommend visiting at least these three places when you go: Phuket, Bangkok, and Chiang Mai. Although they each have some similarities they are completely different experiences.

Phuket

Phuket is one of Thailand’s islands and it’s extremely kid friendly. My kids thought taking a Thai cooking class was cool and they loved going to the beaches and interacting with elephants and tigers. To find the elephants on the beach check out my post: Swimming with Elephants in Thailand. And for more help planning your trip to Phuket see my article: 5 Day Phuket Itinerary with Kids.

Bangkok

Bangkok is massive so there are loads and activities. The kids loved biking through the city despite the heavy traffic and they were thrilled when we stumbled across monstrous milkshakes. To read more about taking Bangkok to kids, check out my article: Two Days in Bangkok with Kids.

Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is an easy city to get around and it has tons to see and do. The city has an incredible night market where you and your kids could shop for hours. Here you will find interesting things to purchase like leather journals, bracelets, and tuk-tuks made out of soda cans. There is an elephant sanctuary where families can care for elephants and of course the food is outstanding! I recommend staying at the Shangri-la and taking a food and city tour by bike. Learn more about visiting Chiang Mai with kids in my article: 4 Things to do in Chiang Mai with kids.

4. New York CityNYC Street Art

New York City is currently Noah’s #1 and in Eden’s top 3 and in my top 15. The kids love the many dessert experiences here like Serendipity, Buns Bar, and  Black Tap. All three places have outrageous over-the-top desserts. They all enjoy hanging out in Central Park and Bryant Park, both parks have lots of free activities. At Bryant Park, kids can play kubb, while parents grab a drink at the little outdoor bar there. In Central Park, there are multiple playgrounds.

Visiting the 9/11 memorial is a must and if the kids are 10 or older tour the museum. Kids enjoy touring the Statue of Liberty, but not necessarily Ellis Island. If you do, go to Ellis Island to look for your family’s name on the wall. If you want to do a bus tour I recommend The Ride, especially if your kids are teens or tweens. I think going to a Broadway show is a must, but this is expensive and not worth it if your kids hate musicals or might possibly sleep through it. Good plays for kids are Wicked, Lion King, and Phantom of the Opera.

Remember the further out you can plan a trip to New York the cheaper the trip will be. Here are 15 Ways to save money in NYC.

We’ve been to NYC more times than we can remember. Check out our New York City Travel Guide to help you plan your own epic NYC getaway!

5. Oahu, Hawaii

Views from Diamond Head hike

Views from the top of Diamond Head a kid-friendly hike in Oahu.

Hawaii is another place that all three kids agree on and Oahu is their top island followed by Kauai. On Oahu, their favorite thing to do is sit at the pool or sit on the beach.

The kids recommend hanging out at the beach on North Shore to check out the waves and do some shopping. While you are up there have shrimp from Giovani’s Shrimp truck and get shaved ice at Matsumoto Shave Ice. If you feel like getting active rent a paddleboard at Sea N Surf and paddle up the Anahulu River and look for sea turtles. The last time we went we saw five huge sea turtles.

Also, fun in Oahu is parasailing in Waikiki and hiking to the top of Diamond Head. When you get done hiking Diamond Head, stop by Shimazu Shave Ice for massive shaved ice.

For more help planning your family’s Oahu vacation read our Oahu Travel Guide

I highly recommend staying at Disney’s Aulani if possible.

6. OrlandoVolcano Bay at Universal Orlando

Orlando would probably make any kid’s list. With it being home to Disney World, Sea World, Discovery Cove, and Universal Studios a family could spend a month and do something different every single day. Universal Orlando is a must once each kid is tall enough to ride all the roller coasters and the new water park, Volcano Bay is fantastic. Besides the theme parks, there are all sorts of other fun things to do like swamp tours through alligator-infested waters, knight tournaments at Medieval Times, and within a short drive lots of beaches.

7. LondonLondon with Kids

London also made it high on the list of the kid’s favorite places. We visited during Thanksgiving a few years ago and everything we did was awesome. There is so much to see and do that you can easily spend a week or two here and never run out of activities. Some of their favorite things were seeing the play Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, eating at Borough Market, and doing the Tower of London tour. Both boy’s least favorite thing to do is the bus tours. I personally appreciated how many free things there were to do in London. For more London ideas and tips, see my article: London with Kids.

8. Negril, Jamaica

Snuba at Beaches Negril

Snuba at Beaches Negril

Negril, Jamaica is Jonah’s #1 pick, and if I was his age, I think this would possibly be my #1 too. We recommend staying at Beaches Negril. This is an all-inclusive resort geared specifically for families. Highlights of staying here include:

  • Sesame Street parade and BBQ party where families can dance with the characters, DJs lead dances, flame throwers perform, and more.
  • Ice Cream Machine – The kids loved the ice cream machine which they visited a minimum of three times a day. (Don’t judge me, it’s vacation!)
  • Snuba – Even kids can snuba at Beaches Negril and they do not have to have any experience to do this. The instructors are fabulous and it’s an activity the kids will never forget.
  • Multiple pools, a lazy river, a water playground, and hot tubs.
  • Miniature golf
  • Video game lounge
  • Kid’s club

9. Vail, ColoradoVail, Colorado with kids

Vail, Colorado is another destination that is enjoyable year-round. During the summer the kids enjoy biking around town, riding horses around the mountain, and visiting the Epic Discovery adventure park set up on the mountain. In the winter the skiing is excellent. My kids have skied since they were little and appreciate the extensive skiing found in Vail. If you do not ski, this is a great place to learn.  For more info, check out our Vail Travel Guide.

10. Silvies Valley RanchKidding Experience at Silvies

Visiting a dude ranch is a completely unique vacation. You can have an experience as a family that just can’t be had unless you are on a working ranch. Here you can shoot guns, interact with baby goats, hit the spa, experience gourmet dining, participate in a cattle round-up, and much more. They even have four golf courses on the ranch. Golf lovers will flip out over the reversible golf course that’s right I said reversible! With a little bit of everything, your family is sure to have an incredible time. To get a feel of the overall ranch read about our Silvies Valley Ranch Experience.

11. GreeceGreece with kids

Greece is an epic experience because let’s face it, there’s no other place on earth like it. It basically doesn’t matter what part of the country you visit, you will never have a bad meal, you will experience history and culture like never before. I can state this as a fact because we’ve traveled all over Greece and it’s all been wonderful.

Athens

Chances are high that one way or another a Greek vacation is going to take you through Athens at some point. Plan to spend at least a day here so you can visit the Acropolis before heading out to the islands. At night during the sunset dine at Savvas, their rooftop overlooks the Acropolis. Hotels can be difficult to get for a family, you may want to stay in an Airbnb.

Mykonos

A one of a kind city and gorgeous beaches await you in Mykonos. Teens and parents alike will love Mykonos City full of white-washed buildings. Also, if you can get a sitter or if your kids are old enough to stay at the hotel alone plan to go out. Mykonos has one of the best nightlife experiences in the world.

Santorini

Here you will have the opportunity to see things you’ve never see before like Red Beach. Perissa, the black beach is also worth visiting if you’ve never seen one before. There are two towns built into the sides of the island, both of which are worth spending time in, Fira and Oia. In Oia, you will see one of the greatest sunsets in the world.

Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki is from biblical times and many of their historical sights have withstood the test of time. (Okay, I know what you are thinking. Yes, all of Greece is from biblical times.) They basically have ruins or a gorgeous church around every corner. The food scene is excellent here. For a list of things to see and do check out my post: Thessaloniki on a Budget

Kassandra

Can’t afford to splurge on the islands? Head here instead. Here you will be greeted with that famous aqua water and glorious beaches. Go shopping in Pefkochori and grab lunch at Agora Beach Bar. I highly recommend staying at Alexander the Great Beach Resort in this area.

12. Australiafeeding kangaroos at the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park

If you can get yourself to Australia, do it! Australia is just as fabulous as everyone says it is. There are so many varied experiences to be had throughout the country.  Try to plan a minimum of 9 days in the country. More than two weeks would be better.

Whitsunday Islands

If swimming the Great Barrier Reef is on your bucket list, then this should be your first stop. Whitehaven Beach should also be on your bucket list. It’s one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Melbourne

If you’ve got a family of foodies, Melbourne is sure to delight. They have the most over-the-top, whimsical food creations you’ve likely ever seen. In between beautiful meals stop by the Brighton Beach Bathing Boxes and the graffiti alleys. The alleys in Melbourne are really cool.

Great Ocean Road

One of the top road trips in the world is driving the Great Ocean Road. Along the way, you can stop at dozens of scenic overlooks and take in the magnificent rock formations like Loch Ard Gorge and the 12 Apostles. You can enjoy one of the many nice beaches where kids can swim and play in the sand. Plus, there are animal encounters. Pull over to look for koalas in the trees and feed the birds at Kafe Koala. Be sure to stop at the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park, where you can hand-feed kangaroos.

13. TexasSan Antonio

We are originally from Texas so it was no surprise that Texas made the list. The kids have been all over Texas and they recommend eating lots of Tex-Mex food and visiting the following cities: Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi.

San Antonio

San Antonio has a ton of stuff for families to do. Here you will find a massive zoo, Fiesta Texas theme park, the famous San Antonio River Walk, and just outside of town is Schlitterbahn the #1 water park in the world. When visiting plan at least one full day at Schlitterbahn, half a day at the river walk, and float the Comal river. Our favorite restaurants in San Antonio currently are Ocho, Toro Kitchen + Bar, and Rita’s on the River.

In San Antonio, I recommend staying at Hotel Emma.

Plan your entire trip with our San Antonio Travel Guide.

Dallas/Fort Worth

The Dallas, Fort Worth area is packed with stuff to do for families. Over in Fort Worth will love the rodeo at the stockyards. Be sure to go when they have bull riding. Also found in the stockyards is a fun maze and Texas-themed shopping. Plus, they do a daily cattle drive. Our favorite restaurants in Dallas include Meso Maya for dinner and El Jordan Cafe for breakfast. Just north of Dallas is Addison, TX which is jammed packed with great restaurants.

14. HondurasRoatan Honduras

Honduras is easily one of our top vacations, according to me. Unfortunately, the kids remember very little of the trip. I recommend going to Roatan and Copan. These two places are no where near each other and two extremely different experiences. What they do have in common is affordability!

Roatan

Roatan is one of the Bay Islands and along the 2nd best barrier reef in the world. The reef is near the shoreline making it extremely easy for kids to snorkel. Jonah was 4 when we visited and he was able to snorkel. Also fun here is zip lining and paddleboarding.

Copan

Copan is a Honduran city that borders Guatemala. Here you can go horseback riding up a mountain, go zip lining on one of the longest zip lines in the world, and visit an incredible hot spring.

15. Panama City Beach

go karting at Cobra Adventure Park in Panama City Beach

Go-karting at Cobra Adventure Park in Panama City Beach

Another family favorite in Florida is Panama City Beach. The beach has soft, powdery, white sand. It isn’t as big as many of the beach towns, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a lot to do. Go mini-golfing and go-carting, spend the day at the beach, or shop around at Pier Park. Spend one day bopping around Scenic 30A, where you will find tiny beach towns like Seaside or Rosemary. Renting some bicycles is a perfect way to explore this area. Another interesting spot worth venturing out to is Sandestin’s Baytowne Wharf. Here, families can indulge in boutique shopping, zip-lining, ropes courses, an arcade, and unique eateries.

Use our Panama City Beach travel guide to plan your entire vacation.

16. Costa RicaLa Roca Canyoning - Rappeling in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is super cool country with a wide variety of things to do. The food was consistently good, the activities were exciting and the people were so nice. Whether rafting down a volcano’s raging rivers in a tube to chilling at a beautiful beach on the Pacific or the Atlantic everyone is going to enjoy the country. Costa Rica Travel Guide

17. La PazBalandra Bay in La Paz

La Paz features miles of white sand beaches and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure including paddle boarding, kite surfing, kayaking, SCUBA diving, whale watching, swimming with whale sharks, sportfishing, hiking, mountain biking, and much more. If you want your kids off their devices and outside doing stuff you will love it here. Plus, the food is unbelievably good.

Plan your own trip with out La Paz Travel Guide for Families.

Conclusion:

So, there you have it, the best of the best family travel locations. There are hundreds of other places that could have made the list but didn’t. These were ones that just barely missed making our list: Las Vegas, Bavarian Alps in Germany, Paris, and house boating on Lake Shuswap in British Columbia. Like Honduras, my kids do not even remember house boating up in Canada, but if they did (well not Jonah, he had yet to be born), I am sure it would have made it onto the list.

Where are your favorite places to take your kids on vacation? We are always taking recommendations and planning our next family vacations. Yes, plural. Why take just one vacation? I think you should take as many as possible, big trips, weekend getaways, family reunions, you name it. These are all opportunities to have fun, spend time together and make the most memories possible. And don’t delay. Noah’s a high school senior and he’s about to move on with his life. (Oregon State University #Bragging) And y’all, I straight up ran out of time with him. You will run out of time, so make today count.

Shell Island – Florida https://www.mommytravels.net/shell-island-florida/ Mon, 29 Oct 2018 18:30:00 +0000 http://www.fabfunsisters.com/demo/?p=84 Shell Island is an incredible uninhabited island near Panama City Beach, Florida with beautiful warm water. Spending a day out here is so much fun.

Shell Island, FloridaShell Island

Next time you are in Panama City Beach rent a boat or jump on a shuttle and take a trip out to Shell Island. Shell Island is a 7-mile long undeveloped 700-acre barrier island just out a short distance away in the Gulf of Mexico and easily accessible from Panama City Beach, Florida. The island runs east to west between the Gulf of Mexico and the St. Andrew Bay. I promise you it will be an awesome day.

How to get to Shell IslandShell Island Shuttle

You can rent a boat like we did or catch a shuttle from St. Andrews State Park. The official Shell Island Shuttle carries passengers between St. Andrews State Park and Shell Island 1/2 hour during the high season, 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Shuttle tickets cost $19.95 Adults – $10.95 Children (12 and under)  Infants free! (12 months and under)

There are several places that rent boats around the area, including Tyndall AFB if you happen to be military. Keep in mind it’s a long boat ride from Tyndall out there.Shell Island board walk down to the beach

On a nice day, there will be a lot of boats out there. The water on the side that faces toward Panama City Beach, FL is quite calm. You can walk over the other side that faces into the open Gulf of Mexico and the waves are much larger and there are more shells.

Shell Island, Florida This is the side with larger waves. You can see the difference. I feel like the side facing the Gulf of Mexico is even more unspoiled since the boats do not come around here. However, the whole island is covered in pure white sand, and from either side, you might just see a bottlenose dolphin! There are lots of dolphins throughout the entire area so hopefully, you will see at least one or two. Shell Island, Florida

We mostly stuck to the calm side where the kids could run, play, and swim.Collecting shells out on Shell Island near Panama City Beach, Florida

Things to do on Shell Island

Now, just a side note about Shell Island. I’ve seen a lot of blog posts say things to do at Shell Island and that’s just false advertising because there’s nothing on the island. You make the fun for yourself, so here are some things you can do!
  • Boogie board
  • Build sandcastles
  • Chase each other  down the beach
  • Collect shells
  • Fly a kite
  • Suntan
  • Wade in the water
  • Have a picnic
  • Float around in the water on a floaty
  • Bird watch
  • Try to spot a sea turtle or a bottlenose dolphin

There are lots of go-kart places in Panama City Beach. Our favorite is at Cobra Adventure Park. One thing to keep in mind is if it’s been raining, then they won’t be running. All the tracks have to be drive in order for people to be able to go kart.

Gulf World Panama City Beach

Gulf World Panama City Beach

Gulf World

To see some interesting birds and dolphins spend a few hours on Gurf World. They even have some shows you can watch including a bird show and a sea lion show. This is a great place to go if it happens to be raining.

Have you been to Panama City Beach? What is your favorite thing to do while you are in town?

Top 9 Destinations for Teens and Tweens in the United States https://www.mommytravels.net/top-9-destinations-teens-tweens-united-states/ Tue, 12 Dec 2017 14:39:27 +0000 http://www.mommytravels.net/?p=11331 Want to take your teenagers on vacation? But you do not want to listen to them cry and moan the entire time? Save yourself from the endless complaining by selecting a destination, they won’t rebel against!

At this point, I’ve traveled extensively with my teens and tween and unfortunately, I know firsthand how stressful things can suddenly become because they are not having a good time on the trip. There are few things worse than a moody teenager on vacation that does not want to participate in any of the activities.

For a while, I gave up and let my oldest kid sit in the hotel room while the rest of us had fun, but eventually, I realized I needed to change the type of trips we were taking. Our trips needed to be way more exciting and physically active, especially if they’ve been stuck in the car on a road trip. With these two things in mind, here are my picks for the top US vacation for teens and tweens.

Top 9 Destinations for Teens and Tweens in the United States

Oahuimg 2610

Oahu is an epic place to take tweens and teens year-round. The weather is consistently good and there is much to do, especially if your family enjoys water sports. Some suggested activities in Oahu that teens will likely appreciate are:

If possible, I highly recommend staying at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa. This resort has a teen program that your kids will actually want to go to. They get to participate in physical challenges, take animation classes, learn to play the ukulele, have parties just for them, and more. While your kids are off doing their own thing, you have peace of mind knowing that they are safe and having fun.

See our Oahu Travel Guide to help you plan your entire trip!

Kauai, Hawaii is also fantastic if you want something less mainstream.

Vailimg 1946

Whether you visit in the summer or in the winter, tweens and teens will love Vail, Colorado.

In the summer, teens can zip line and adventure through multiple ropes courses at Epic Discovery up on the mountain. Plus, there are other activities like horseback riding, white water rafting, and mountain biking.

During the winter, tweens and teens can spend their time skiing and snowboarding across the massive mountain. Vail has free public transportation that’s easy to use, allowing kids to have a little independence roaming around on their own.

See our Vail, Colorado Travel Guide to help you plan your trip or our 4-Day Vail Itinerary. Our favorite place to stay in Vail is Sonnenalp Hotel.

Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando houses many of the best roller coasters in the United States and has two extensive Harry Potter areas. Teens and tweens will love riding all the intense roller coasters. If your kids are like mine and want to ride the same roller coaster over and over, consider purchasing an Express Pass. This line pass will allow you to bypass almost every line there is in all three of the parks, which means there will be plenty of time to ride everything at least twice.

Recently, Universal Orlando added a water park, Volcano Bay. There are rarely any lines and you do not have to cart around your own raft or tubes for the slides. They’ve made using the water park easy, and with teens and tweens, the easier the better!

A nice plus is the city of Orlando because when you are done hanging out at Universal, Orlando has lots of other things to do. Kids of all ages will get a kick out of taking a Wild Florida airboat out on the swamps and seeing alligators. Oh, and there’s always Disney World

Las Vegas

Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is not somewhere most think to take teenagers, but it is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the United States and there’s lots to do for all ages. Give the kids a thrill at the indoor skydiving facility or zip lining off the Rio casino at VooDoo Zip.

Other fun things to do include Gameworks, the massive indoor gaming facility, rocking climbing out at the Red Rocks, ATVing, and hanging out at some of the incredible hotel pools. The Wet N’ Wild in Las Vegas also has some extreme water rides. Teens will also like most of the Cirque Du Soleil shows in town. You can currently get Cirque Du Soleil discount tickets up to 50% off one of their shows in Vegas.

For more recommendations on planning a trip to Vegas with kids, see my article: Tons of Activities for Teenagers in Las Vegas.  Here is a sample itinerary: Five Days in Las Vegas with Kids, our extensive Las Vegas Travel Guide, and our hotel recommendations 11 Best Kid-Friendly Las Vegas Hotels.

San Antonio

San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas is jammed packed with activities. They have two major theme parks, Six Flags and Sea World, not to mention one of the most extensive water parks in the world, Schlitterbahn. The nice thing is, teenagers can basically run off and do their own thing in all of these theme parks. Even along the River Walk, kids can go explore all on their own. While they shop around, parents can take a break over a drink and enjoy the River Walk in a slightly more grown-up way.

San Antonio also has a fantastic zoo, but you will want to skip it if the temperature is over 100 degrees outside. Instead, lather on the sunscreen and go float down the Comel River or Guadalupe River.

In San Antonio, I recommend staying at Hotel Emma.

Plan your entire trip with our San Antonio Travel Guide.

Panama City Beach

Bay Point Resort Panama City Beach
Panama City Beach

Another teen favorite in Florida is Panama City Beach.

Bend, Oregon

Kayaking in Sunriver, Oregon near Bend, Oregon
Kayaking in Sunriver, Oregon near Bend, Oregon

Bend, Oregon is another destination that is fantastic in the summer and in the winter. Year-round they have some of the best off-roading in the state!

During the summer, families will get a charge out of kayaking, white water rafting, and hiking. If your kids have never white water rafted before, take them down the Big Eddy. They will get a small taste of major rapids without being tossed around too terribly. Nearby, in Sunriver, there is a small water park and a little village to shop in.

During the winter you can ski and snowboard on Mt. Bachelor, and there’s an outdoor ice skating rink in Sunriver.

Read our Bend, Oregon Travel Guide to help plan your family vacation. Tetherow Lodge is our favorite place to stay in Bend.

NYC

NYC with teens

There are a lot of things to do for this age group in New York City year-round. During the winter season, everyone can ice skate for free in Bryant Park and shop at all the little shops that are set up temporarily. Plus, you can witness the acclaimed Rockettes performing and many other Christmas shows.

All year long, visitors can enjoy the major landmarks and attractions here, like seeing the Statue of Liberty or visiting Ground Zero. Once kids are age 10 and up they are old enough to go through the September 11th Memorial, and old enough to appreciate, or at least sit through, a Broadway show.

We’ve been to NYC more times than we can remember. Check out our New York City Travel Guide to help you plan your own epic NYC getaway! I’ve also put together a 3-Day NYC Itinerary with Teens.

Palm Springs, California

Omni Rancho Las Palmas

Take teens on an adventure trip in Palm Springs with activities like four-wheelers or Jeep tours. Despite it being almost 100 degrees outside all three of my kids loved going on a Jeep tour of the San Andreas fault. Families can hike out at Coachella Valley Preserve or take the Palm Springs Aerial Tram up to Mt. San Jacinto State Park to hike in cooler temperatures.

I recommend staying at Omni Rancho Las Palmas near Palm Springs. They have several swimming pools and a lazy river.

Use our Palm Springs Travel Guide to help you plan your family vacation.

Conclusion

This list could undoubtedly keep going with the abundance of diverse destinations found across the United States, but hopefully, these 9 are enough to get you started on planning a successful trip with your teens!

Get Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can go wrong on any trip. Be prepared for the worst with travel insurance. We use Travelex or Safety Wing (often cheaper).

Book Flights

I use Skyscanner to find flights. I use it so much, I wrote an entire guide to finding cheap flights with Skyscanner! My second favorite site to find flights is Momondo, another great site for finding cheap flights.

Book a Place to Stay

I recommend using Expedia.com or Hotels.com for most hotel bookings. I prefer to book directly with Marriott when I stay there because of their excellent military discount.

If you prefer staying in a vacation rental instead, I recommend VRBO.

Rent Clothes

Rent clothes for your trip with Travel Style Expert for only $50 a month! The first 30 days are free!

Choose Activities and Tours

To find great activities in any area I use Get Your Guide and Viator. If we are visiting a city with lots of popular attractions I always check CityPass and GoCard to see if they have discount cards available.

When I want to book a full-on multi-day tour I use TourRadar. They’ve got fantastic weekly deals. If I am going somewhere in Mexico or the Caribbean I use Apple Vacations.

Rent a Car or Take a Lyft

More often than not Lyft is cheaper than Uber. Use my Lyft link for an $18 credit! For a car rental in any country, I recommend Discover Cars.

10 Best Beaches in the United States https://www.mommytravels.net/10-best-beaches-in-the-united-states/ https://www.mommytravels.net/10-best-beaches-in-the-united-states/#comments Mon, 19 Sep 2016 05:24:38 +0000 http://www.mommytravels.net/?p=7242 Have you ever wondered where the Best Beaches in the United States are?

The USA is a huge country and there are probably thousands of beaches. As you can imagine I have not had a chance to visit them all. I have been blessed to visit many beaches and I must say I never visit a beach I do not love. Based on my experiences thus far I have picked out what I think are the 10 best beaches in the United States. Here they are!Best Beaches In The United States: Don't miss out on our Top 10 Best Beaches picks for the US! These are ideal for beautiful sand and great water!

10 Best Beaches in the United States

Hanauma Bay, Oahu Hanauma Bay State Park

Hanauma Bay is a state park and does require a fee to get in! It is one of only two beaches I’ve included that charge a fee, but it’s such an incredible place it’s worth the fee.

This area was declared a protected marine life conservation area and underwater park in 1967. Here you will find not only a stunning beach but the best snorkeling in Oahu. Be careful to not touch or walk on the coral while visiting. Do not forget that they are CLOSED ON TUESDAYS!

There are lots of wonderful beaches all around Oahu like the beach in front of the Aulani Resort. Be sure to make time to visit several beaches.

For more on Oahu read our Oahu Travel Guide

Poipu Beach, Kauai

Poipu beach

Poipu Beach Kauai

Poipu Beach is on the south part of Kauai. It is somewhat protected making it a safer place for children to swim. One nice thing about this beach is that even if it is cold everywhere else on the island it is almost always warm here.

You will want to be sure and bring your goggles because the snorkeling is excellent. This is definitely one of the best beaches in the United States to visit with your family year-round!

Kauai has many fantastic beaches as well as incredible hiking. Be sure to make time for a hike or two.

To help you plan your trip read our Kauai, Hawaii Travel Guide.

Shell Island

Shell Island

Shell Island

Shell Island is a little island in Florida in the Gulf of Mexico that is basically part of Panama City Beach. To get out there, you will have to get a boat. You can rent a boat like we did or catch a shuttle from St. Andrews State Park for a fee. There are several places that rent boats, including the Tyndall AFB if you’re military.

If you have kids with you, take note that the water on the side that faces towards Panama City Beach, FL is quite calm. You can easily walk over to the other side that faces the open Gulf of Mexico, where the waves are much larger and there are typically more seashells.

For everything you need to know about visiting this area check out our Panama City Beach Travel Guide.

Mexico Beach, Florida

Mexico Beach

Mexico Beach

Mexico Beach is to the east of Panama City and west of Gulf County. This little beach is usually not crowded. It’s a drive to get out here, but once you get here the beach and parking are free. This is a fun spot to collect shells and boogieboard.

If you get hungry, I recommend eating at Toucan’s. Keep in mind that there is next to no lodging here.

To visit Mexico Beach for the day you will want to stay in nearby Panama City Beach where there is a lot more going on: shopping, restaurants, and family-friendly activities.

Update: I am heartbroken to update this. Toucans was completely destroyed during the hurricane as was most of Mexico Beach. They are really hurting down there. If you are able to send donations to one of the local organizations helping that area.

Santa Monica Beach

Santa monica beach

Santa Monica Beach

Located super close to LA is Santa Monica beach, one of the most fun beaches in California. The famous Santa Monica Pier is located here and is covered with rides and vendors. The beach is sprawling and has a gymnastics-like playground on parts of it.

Near the beach, you will find tons of restaurants and shops. Our favorite restaurant near here so far has been M Street Kitchen. Just south of Santa Monica beach is the famous Venice Beach. This has long been one of the best beaches in the United States for many families to visit year-round.

To save a bit of money on your Santa Monica visit read our post, Free things to do in Los Angeles

Coronado Beach San Diego California

Coronado Beach San Diego California

Coronado Beach San Diego California

This beach is a great spot near San Diego to surf, paddleboard, boogie board, or just hang out. There are even tide pools during low tide at Coronado Central Beach.

Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach

With 60 miles of beaches, Myrtle Beach in North Carolina has a lot to offer. The beach, of course, is beautiful, but that’s just one of the perks of vacationing here. There are tons of shopping and restaurants. The activities available vary from water sports to kid-friendly shows to amusement & water parks and so much more.

Flamenco BeachFlamenco Beach

Flamenco Beach in Puerto Rico is considered one of the best beaches in the world, so with Puerto Rico being part of the United States, I thought I should include it. It’s known for having shallow turquoise water, white sand, and good diving spots. The beach has bathroom facilities, showers, and bathrooms.

For more help planning a Puerto Rico trip read our post, Things to do in Puerto Rico.

Ecola State Park

Ecola State park

Ecola State Park https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:OregonCoastEcola.jpg

Just north of Cannon Beach is Ecola State Park, one of Oregon’s most beautiful beaches. Here you can enjoy the beach or you can check out miles of hiking trails, and picnic areas. The views are substantial here, including great vantage points for bird and whale watchers. There is a $5 fee to enter this state park. I recommend staying at Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach when you visit.

Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach

Sunset views of Cannon Beach from Surfsand Resort

Jekyll Island Jekyll Island

Jekyll Island, Georgia is home to four different beaches, including the romantic Driftwood Beach and family-friendly Great Dunes beach. Also on the island are historic homes, excellent restaurants, and even a water park.

Depending on when you visit the mosquitos can be horrible. We went in August and they were brutal. Take lots of bug repellant.

Did your favorite beach make the list?

Obviously, I haven’t made it to every beach in the United States and I basically only included some that I’ve been to. If I didn’t manage to include your favorite beach let me know. You can share your favorite/best beach in the comments below. Be sure to tell us why it’s the best!

I hope this list of the best beaches in the United States will inspire you to spend a bit more time on the road visiting the sand and sun this year!

Splash Condominiums Pool and Water Park in Panama City Beach, Florida https://www.mommytravels.net/splash-condominiums-pool-and-water-park-in-panama-city-beach-florida/ Tue, 10 Dec 2013 10:00:00 +0000 http://www.fabfunsisters.com/demo/?p=58 Splash Condominiums Mini Water Park

Splash condominiums, also known now as Sterling resorts, are fantastic beach front condos in Panama City Beach. This would be a great place to stay on vacation in Panama City Beach. They have a small water park, a few pools, mini lazy river, and a splash pad. I have not stayed in the rooms, but their outdoor areas are awesome.

iphone photo
We got to visit Splash Condominiums when Noah was invited to a birthday party there. I do not think just anyone can have a birthday party there. The kid who was having the birthday party had a family member that was living there. Oddly enough, I had tried to rent a condo here when we first moved to Panama City Beach. I thought it would be a ton of fun to live there.
They do have a small bar area where you can get food and drinks which is nice. I had not expected the condo complex

There is a small tube slide that is safe for even small children and they have one of those large buckets that fill up with water and then spills over creating a huge splash.

The hot tub is next to the kids area, so parents can sit in the hot tub and keep an eye on the kids. This was my favorite part.

They also have a nice size regular swimming pool.
