Are you tired of the same old dinner and a movie date? Do you want to surprise your significant other with a romantic getaway that’s close to home? Then look no further than the great state of Texas! From the beaches of Galveston to the rolling hills of the Hill Country, Texas has something for every couple looking to escape the daily routine. In this blog post, I’ll highlight some of the most romantic getaways in Texas so you can plan a trip that will leave your beloved swooning.

1. FredericksburgJapanese Garden in Fredericksburg

Located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg is a quaint town that’s perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. Walk hand in hand down Main Street, stopping at boutique shops and art galleries, and then unwind with a glass of Texas wine at one of the many vineyards in the area.

Make sure to book a stay at one of the cozy bed and breakfasts that dot the surrounding countryside for a truly relaxing escape. Check out our post Plan The Perfect Romantic Getaway to Fredericksburg, Texas to help you plan your entire trip!

2. South Padre IslandSouth Padre

If you and your significant other love the beach, South Padre Island is the perfect romantic getaway in Texas. With miles of white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, you’ll feel like you’re in your own private paradise (just don’t go in March).

Take a sunset stroll along the pier, go parasailing, or just lounge on the beach with a good book. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy a romantic dinner for two. 8 Best Hotels and Resorts in South Padre Island

3. MarfaMarfa

Marfa is a unique destination for a romantic getaway in Texas. This small West Texas town attracts artists and creatives from all over the world, making it a perfect spot for a couples’ escape. Stay in a luxurious airstream, or book a room at the iconic Hotel Paisano. Spend your days exploring the art installations and galleries around town, and your nights stargazing in the clear desert sky. Maybe you will even see the mysterious Marfa lights! (I’ve never seen them and I’ve been here multiple times.)

4. WimberleyWimberly

Wimberley is a charming town located about an hour from Austin that offers a romantic escape in the Texas Hill Country. Hike the trails at Blue Hole Regional Park, take a dip in the springs or even kayak, and enjoy a picnic with your significant other. In the evening, stroll through the town square and dine at one of the many excellent restaurants. Top off your night with a glass of wine under the stars at one of the local wineries.

5. BrenhamAnn Street Inn

If you and your partner are fans of history and nostalgia, Brenham is an excellent choice for a romantic getaway. Stay at the antebellum-inspired Ant Street Inn, then take a tour of the town’s historic buildings, including the Brenham Heritage Museum. You can also take a leisurely drive through the surrounding countryside, admiring the Bluebonnet fields and quaint farms. I also have to give a shoutout to Bluebell here since you can take a tour. This isn’t romantic but it’s delicious.

6. AustinAustin

My favorite romantic getaway in Texas is the vibrant city of Austin. With its stunning skyline, bustling downtown, and endless entertainment options, it’s the perfect place to take your special someone for a weekend of fun and relaxation. From taking a stroll along Lady Bird Lake to exploring the eclectic shops and eateries along South Congress, there’s something for everyone in this beautiful city. Plus, you can’t beat the live music scene!

7. San AntonioSan Antonio garden

San Antonio is another great destination for a romantic getaway in Texas. This historic city offers plenty of attractions that are sure to create lasting memories with your significant other. Spend a day exploring one of the many missions or visit The Alamo for a dose of history. Then head over to the Riverwalk to enjoy some delicious food and drinks while admiring the stunning views of the San Antonio River.

I also recommend visiting a few of the gardens in the city. They are beautiful and peaceful for strolling around holding hands.

8. Big Bend National ParkRio Grande river in Big Bend

If you’re looking for an outdoor adventure with your special someone, then Big Bend National Park is just what you need! This majestic park is home to breathtaking views, hiking trails, and camping sites that will make your trip unforgettable. Whether you choose to explore by foot or take a scenic drive through the Chisos Mountains, you won’t regret spending time here with your loved one. Plus, you can bond during the super long drive to get there.

9. Retreat on the HillRetreat on the Hill

This is obviously not a city, but a place to stay just outside of Marble Falls in Cottonwood Shores. However, its accommodations are incredibly romantic so I felt like it was worth including. You can see my full review and photos of the lodging options here: The Retreat on the Hill – Elevated Glamping in Texas. I’ve stayed in three of their units and I think the teepee is the most romantic because of the separate teepee with a massive bathtub!
